6/16/07: Since it's been nearly four months since I added a note I suppose it's time. The few people who have found there way here generally seem supportive. That's good. What's not so good is the glacial pace of getting anything new posted. There have been additions, almost entirely in the prize area. All the "A" privateers have now been re-written, sometimes more than once. Please, if you see an error, let me know. I have begun re-writing the "B" privateers. I am pleased with the link placed on the American Revolution.org pages. The proprietor, Ed St. Germaine, sent out an e-mail or post, which resulted in a number of hits. Very interesting that, among the recent hits, is one from "pentagon.mil." I still plan to post most of the privateers by December. It is hard to believe it's been over a year and this site is still not developed.
2/28/07: I moved these notes to their own page today. Setting up this site is quite interesting, but sometimes very frustrating. The long delays are accounted for by a slew of IE problems. In developing the pages I used Firefox to check them, not being aware that IE and Firefox don't follow the same rules in depicting pages. You wonder sometimes if IE follows any rules. Consequently all the "A" files had to be recoded to fit IE's scheme. At the same time a great new source of information turned up, so not only are the "A" privateers being re-coded, about half of them are being re-written with additional data. About half way through that process I discovered that the first column of links on the two master prize pages didn't work in IE. They work fine in Firefox. I am totally unable to find out why for sure. Those two pages are now being re-written to solve that problem. As long as I had to re-do those two, I thought I might as well add links to everything that I might ever think of putting up here, so I won't have to do it again later.
12/3/06: After a long break work has resumed. The navigation has been overhauled and the page appearance has become more uniform. The search feature has moved to it's own page. A guestbook has been added, and a links page established (no links yet, however). Additional data has been added to the "Prizes" section. A profile of the Maryland Navy Galley Baltimore has been added, and the posting of "B" privateer profiles has begun.
7/18/06: Posting of the files for privateers beginning with the letter “A” is now completed. An experimental prize list section has been added, as well as some conventions and explanations. The conventions page is roughly equivalent to an FAQ page. A short narrative of the attack on New Providence in 1776 has been added in the other items section.
