Comments:
Sloop Polly (Elkanah Hathway [Hathaway]) was owned by Hathway & Co. Polly sailed from Charleston, South Carolina on 27 May 1777, bound for Sint Eustatius, Netherlands West Indies with a cargo of rice and naval stores. On 28 May 1777 Polly encountered HM Frigate Daphne (Captain St. John Chinnery) and was captured. Polly parted company from the Daphne in a strong gale. She was still missing five months later. She eventually turned up at New York, New York, where she was tried and condemned.
