Comments: The schooner Rachael (Purnell Johnston) was bound from Bermuda, British West Indies to some port in the southern part of America, perhaps in North Carolina, with a cargo of salt. Off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, she fell in with the British Privateer Brig Loyal Subject (Andrew Syme), which had sailed from New York, New York on 6 March 1778. Rachael was captured by the Loyal Subject, along with other prizes, and was escorted to New York, arriving on 16 March.
