Comments: Schooner Polly (John Dyer) was bound from Falmouth, Massachusetts [Maine] to the West Indies with a cargo of lumber. On 13 (or 17) March 1778 she was captured near St. George’s Bank (or off Falmouth in Casco Bay) by HM Schooner Tender Arbuthnot (Lieutenant Edward Dalton). Arbuthnot was a tender of HM Frigate Rainbow (Captain Sir George Collier). Polly was sent in to Halifax, Nova Scotia, arriving on 18 March 1778. She was libeled on 26 March, and tried and condemned on 21 April 1778.
