Comments: Brig Hazard was sailing from Newburyport, Massachusetts with a cargo of fish and lumber. On 11 March 1778 she was southwest of the Mona Passage when she was sighted and chased by HM Frigate Æolus (Captain Christopher Atkins). At 1530 Æolus stopped the chase. Atkins reported she was French owned, bound from Cayenne to Port au Prince, Saint-Domingue with an American cargo aboard. She was detained on suspicion and sent into Jamaica, British West Indies.
