Comments: The 90-ton brig Dartmouth (William Haydon) was owned in New Bedford, Massachusetts by Joseph Russell & Co. She sailed from Cap François, Sainte-Domingue, French West Indies with a cargo of rum and coffee, bound for Boston, Massachusetts, with a crew of nine men aboard. On 31 March 1778, fifteen miles NNE of Cap François, at 0530 she was sighted by HM Sloop Badger (Lieutenant Michael John Everitt), in the northeast quarter and chased. At 0700 Badger fired ten 4-pounders and stopped the Dartmouth. An officer and a prize crew took possession. She was eventually sent to Jamaica, British West Indies.
