Comments: Sloop Adventure (Edward Frith) was en route from somewhere in the Carolinas (possibly Charleston, South Carolina) to Cap Français, Sainte-Domingue. On 5 March 1777 she was sighted by HM Sloop Hound (Commander James Robertson), then twelve miles northwest of Monte Cristi, Santo Domingo. Hound chased to the southeast at 0600 and sent off her pinnance after the chase at 0900. Hound fired no less than eighteen rounds at the Adventure. Finally, at 1230 the boat got up to the sloop and boarded her. The prize joined Hound at 1230. Meanwhile the weather was becoming fresh with rain squalls. Robertson took possession of the sloop and made sail. The next day the prizes parted company and Robertson feared Adventure might have wrecked on the Tortugas. However she got safely into Port Royal, Jamaica on 12 March.
