Comments: The brigantine Ann (Charles Webster) sailed from London, England bound for New York, New York early in 1781. She then sailed from New York bound for Lisbon, Portugal. On 8 June 1781 she was off Block Island, Rhode Island, where she was sighted and chased by Massachusetts Privateer Neptune (Smith). After a a two hour chase the Ann was captured. The British reported the Neptune had sixteen 6-pounders and a crew of sixty men aboard. After exchanging the crew the prize was ordered into Boston, Massachusetts. Two days later, near the Nantucket Shoals in Massachusetts, she fell in with HMS America (Thomson) which re-captured the Ann. She was sent into Halifax, Nova Scotia under escort of HMS Royal Oak.
