Comments: On 4 June 1777 HM Frigate Ambuscade (Captain John Macartney) was patrolling off Sequin Island. At 0400 a sail was seen to the northwest and chased. At 0900 Macartney shifted four 12-pounders from forward to aft to trim his ship for better sailing. At 1100 he fired two 6-pounders to stop the chase, but the Americans ignored the warning and kept going. Finally she hove to and Macartney sent over his cutter. The prize was the schooner Swallow (E. Woodberry [A. Woodbury]), bound to Guadeloupe, French West Indies from Salem, Massachusetts with a cargo of salt, fish and lumber. The crew was removed and an officer and three men went aboard to take Swallow to Halifax, Nova Scotia. By 1630 the prize had parted company.
