Comments: The schooner Sally (John Hill) was owned by J. Winthrop, Jr. She was en route from Charleston [or Georgetown], South Carolina to Bilbao, Spain in June 1777 with a cargo of rice and turpentine, and several passengers. Sally met HM Frigate Brune (Captain James Ferguson) at sea on 20 June and was captured. The prize was ordered into St. Augustine, East Florida, where she arrived with Brune and prize Fame on 22 June. Hill was aboard a cartel vessel that arrived at Charleston on 14 October 1777, and was presumably exchanged.
