Comments: Schooner General Washington (Humphrey Hughes) was owned by Isaac Governier. She was bound from Curaçao, Netherlands West Indies to Virginia with a cargo of salt and medicines. General Washington was captured on 1 June 1777, off Cape May, New Jersey by HM Tender Ballahoo (Lieutenant Richard Brewer), tender to the Roebuck. Ten prisoners were transferred to the Roebuck. General Washington was converted into a tender to the Roebuck for a time and then was sent into the Delaware River to join the British fleet there. She was eventually sent into New York, New York where she was tried in the Vice-Admiralty Court as the Lady Washington and condemned.
