Comments: Sighted in Diable Bay, Nova Scotia at 0700 by HM Frigate Mermaid (Captain James Hawker) after Mermaid had just missed capturing an American privateer in Barrington Bay. Hawker sent his boats to examine the Elizabeth and they took possession of her. The date of capture is also given as 5 June 1778 in Howe’s prize list of 28 September 1778. According to this list she was taken off Mount Desert Island, Massachusetts [Maine] and sent into Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.
