Comments: Sloop Betsey (Samuel Wardwell [Wardell]) was bound from [Charleston], South Carolina to Boston, Massachusetts with a cargo of rice. She was sighted by HM Frigate Orpheus (Captain Charles Hudson) at 0500 and ordered to chase by HM Frigate Amazon. Orpheus captured the Betsey at 1300. Her crew was removed and a prize crew of two men went aboard. The prize sailed immediately for Halifax.
