Comments: Ship Africa (Joseph Ripley) was captured by HM Frigate Hind (Captain Henry Bryne) and sent into Antigua, British West Indies. It is possible that she was the same vessel as the brig Africa, mentioned in a British intelligence report as being in Spain to load supplies for the Americans in April 1776. The date of capture is arbitrary. Africa was condemned on 4 July 1776.
