Comments: Snow Success (Pierre Andrew Magnero [Maguero]), was bound from Guadeloupe, French West Indies to Virginia with a cargo of salt, cloth and sundries on 24 July 1777. She was sighted by HM Frigate Emerald (Captain Benjamin Caldwell), anchored in the entrance to Chesapeake Bay, at 0700, away to the south southeast. Emerald raised sail to chase, as did HM Frigate Thames. At 0900 Caldwell sent his barge in chase, being unable to work out of the bay. The barge returned at 2100 with the prize, a “French snow.” She was sent off for New York, New York. Success was tried and condemned in 1777. There are High Court of Admiralty records for this prize, where she is described as an “American” merchant vessel
