Comments: Schooner Sally (John Viceant; owned by Viceant) was bound from Virginia to Cap Français, Saint-Domingue, French West Indies on 19 July 1777 with a cargo of tobacco. She was coming down Chesapeake Bay, standing for Cape Henry when she was sighted by HM Frigate Emerald (Captain Benjamin Caldwell) at 2100. Caldwell sent off his barge in pursuit and Sally was captured. At 2300 she was brought to the Emerald, her cargo was removed, and the schooner scuttled.
