Comments: Sloop Speedwell (Joseph Manchester) was a 70-ton vessel, manned with a crew of seven men and armed with four guns. She was bound out of Providence, Rhode Island with a cargo of flour and lumber, for Hispaniola. Speedwell was captured on 16 July 1776 by HM Frigate Hind (Captain Henry Bryne) and sent into English Harbor, Antigua for trial.
