Comments: The sloop Sally was en route from Hamburg, Germany to New York, New York with a cargo of bale goods. About 27 July 1776 she was near Nantucket Shoals, Massachusetts, where she was captured by HM Frigate Liverpool. She was taken into New York, where her cargo was removed and shipped to Halifax, Nova Scotia for trial and condemnation. The Sally was left at New York. Although Sally was cleared out for St. Eustatius in the Netherlands West Indies, one of her crewmen testified that she was bound for New York.
