Comments: In July 1776, off Machias, Massachusetts [Maine], HM Sloop Viper captured two schooners. Both had been abandoned by their crews who took their papers with them. Both schooners were loaded with wood and empty casks, and were sent into Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they were tried and condemned.
