Comments: Brig Hiram was sailing from The Occoys [Les Cayes], Saint-Domingue with a cargo of molasses. She was owned in Falmouth, Massachusetts [Maine] and was probably bound for that place. At 0700 Hiram was sighted by HM Frigate Æolus (Captain Christopher Atkins), some fifteen miles east southeast of Cape Coriantes [Cabo Corrientes, Cuba]. Æolus chased Hiram until 1330 when she overtook and captured the brig. Eleven members of Hiram’s crew were removed to the frigate. She was sent into Jamaica.
