Comments: Ship Brigantine was a vessel recently built at Newburport, Massachusetts. She was captured, probably about January 1778, by the British Privateer Schooner Active (Peter Agnew), a small vessel of eight guns and forty men, operating out of Guernsey, Channel Isles. Brigantine had a cargo of tobacco aboard and was presumably en route to France. She was sent into Guernsey and had been tried and put up for sale before 25 February 1778. Her cargo was valued at £17000.
