Comments: This unidentified schooner was bound from The Occoys [Les Cayes], Saint-Domingue for Nantucket, Massachusetts. She was sighted by HM Frigate Æolus (Captain Christopher Atkins) at 0500 on 21 January 1778, some eighteen miles southwest of Cape Coriantes [Cabo Corrientes, Cuba]. Æolus chased Hiram until noon when the British were becalmed. Atkins sent off his barge and cutter under Lieutenant George Lindsay. At 1830 the boats returned, having captured the schooner. A prize crew of five men went aboard and six prisoners were removed.
