Comments: Sloop Speedwell (John Hazard) was en route from Georgia to Philadelphia when she was sighted by HM Frigate Perseus at 0800 on 7 January 1777. Speedwell was captured at 1600, after an eight hour chase, and was sent to Antigua, where she was condemned.
