Comments: The sloop Fanny (Thomas Ridley) was bound from Cap Fran*ais, Saint Domingue to Charlestown, South Carolina with a cargo of rum and molasses. En route the Fanny encountered bad weather and lost her rudder in the storm. On 23 January 1777 she was some twelve miles north of Charlestown, trying to get into that port. At 1500 she was sighted to the west by HM Frigate Camilla (Captain Charles Phipps). Camilla stopped the Fanny, removed the prisoners, and put an officer and seven men aboard as a prize crew.
