Comments: French brig Assumption (Andrew Laffont) was bound from Martinique, French West Indies to Charleston, South Carolina. About the end of August 1777 or the beginning of September 1777 she encountered British Privateer Ship True Briton (Thomas Venture) and, presumably, was detained by the British. When True Briton fought Continental Navy Ship Randolph (Captain Nicholas Biddle) on 4 September 1777, Assumption was also captured. Although taken in to Charleston on 7 September she was released.
