Comments: Ship Resolution [Restoration] (Waterburgh) sailed from Dominica, British West Indies, bound for Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with a cargo of sugar, coffee, sandalwood and other items. She was captured by the British Privateers Hetty and Cornwallis, operating out of Charleston, South Carolina. She was subsequently captured by the Maryland Privateer Schooner Antelope (Commander Frederick Folger) and the Maryland Privateer Schooner Felicity (Commander Thomas Cole) of Baltimore, en route home from Guadeloupe, French West Indies. Resolution was then captured by the British Privateer Revenge, out of London. She was then re-captured by the Pennsylvania Privateer Brig Ariel (Commander Peter Miller). Resolution was in the Delaware River by 8 May and arrived at Philadelphia on 10 May 1781. Resolution she was libeled on 11 May, with her trial set for 2 June 1781. Ariel had preceded her into port by a few days. Her cargo was advertised for sale on 13 and 18 July 1781. Resolution was then dismantled and her guns, tackle, cables, anchors and such advertised for sale on 26 July. Although Resolution was duly condemned, an appeal was made to the Court of Appeals. It was 26 February 1782 before the crew’s portion of the sale proceeds was distributed.
