Comments: Schooner Proteus (Edward Standing), a pilot boat built schooner, was bound from North Carolina to the West Indies with tobacco and tar as her cargo. She was captured by the British and then re-captured by the American Revenue, perhaps about April 1779. The privateer brought her into New London on 18 May.
