Comments: Sloop Revenge (Henry Laugiew) was en route from Guadeloupe, French West Indies to Virginia with a cargo of rum and brandy on 20 April 1777. She was twenty-four miles northeast of Cape Henry, Virginia at 0800 when she was sighted in the southeast and chased by HM Frigate Emerald (Captain Benjamin Caldwell). The barge was sent over with a prize crew and the prize kept in company with the Emerald.
