Comments: The Proteus (William Proby [Probey]) was bound from St. Croix, Danish West Indies with a cargo of rum, sugar and molasses. She was captured by HM Frigate Galatea on 24 April 1777. Proteus was sent into New York, New York, where she was tried and condemned in 1777.
