Comments: The sloop Polly (Charles Colehan) was bound from St. Eustatius, Netherlands West Indies with a cargo of molasses, salt, coffee and cordage, sailing for the Kennebec River, Massachusetts [Maine]. On 5 April 1777 she was about 120 miles southeast of Cape Ann, Massachusetts. At 1000 HM Frigate Greyhound (Captain Archibald Dickson) sighted a sail in the southeast and chased in company with HM Frigate Diamond (Captain Charles Feilding). The weather was clear and somewhat windy and both frigates made more sail. At 1430 Greyhound spoke the Polly, which surrendered. Dickson sent a mate and four men aboard as a prize crew and removed her eleven man crew. Six of the prisoners were sent to the Diamond.
