Comments: The French schooner La Marie (Jean Tennet) was bound from Cap François, Saint-Domingue to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a cargo of rum, sugar, and molasses. She was captured by HM Frigate Pearl on 6 April 1777. Other sources indicate she was captured on 11 April. The prize appears in all lists as the Mary, and was sent into New York, New York, where she had arrived by 21 April. She was tried in the Vice Admiralty court and condemned in 1777. In the court records she is noted as an American merchant vessel with a “congé” (pass).
