Comments: Schooner Friendship (John Gibbons) was en route from Curaçao, Netherlands West Indies to Virginia, in ballast, on 4 April 1777. She was sighted by HM Frigate Emerald (Captain Benjamin Caldwell) st 0500, some twenty-miles southeast of Cape Henry, Virginia, and chased. Friendship was captured at 1000. The prisoners were removed and the schooner was scuttled.
