Comments: North Carolina Privateer Sloop Francis [Francois] (Commander Thomas Baker) was active in the summer of 1777. On 21 April 1777 she was bound from St. Eustatius, Netherlands West Indies to North Carolina with a cargo of salt, sailing in company with another vessel. At 1230 the pair were sighted by HM Frigate Galatea (Captain Thomas Jordan), 144 miles northeast of Charleston, South Carolina. The two split up as Galatea gave chase and Francis was captured.
