Comments: Schooner Esther (Rogers) was bound from South Carolina to Cape Ann, Massachusetts with a cargo of rice and tar. On 29 April 1777 she was about 120 miles off Cape Ann. She was sighted at 0900 by HM Frigate Scarborough (Captain Henry Mowat) and the chase was on. At 1400 Mowat dispatched his boats after the chase. The boats returned at 1600 with the Esther. A prize crew was sent aboard and Esther remained in company for a time. She was sent into Halifax, Nova Scotia. Esther was libeled on 10 May 1777, and she was condemned on 27 May.
