Comments: Brigantine Constant Friend (Benjamin Evans) was captured by HMS Albion (Captain John C. Allen), perhaps about April 1777. The master of the Constant Friend was kept prisoner and was aboard HMS Ocean in late May or early June 1777. He petitioned the Admiralty for release, since the vessel he was on was not armed, and also the release of William Conyers, a young relative also a prisoner from the Constant Friend. On 9 June 1777 the Admiralty ordered that both be released. The vessel was tried and condemned in the High Court of Admiralty as the Constant Friends.
