Comments: Abigail was one of two sloops (the other was Diana) captured in Newport Harbor by HM Frigate Rose (Captain Wallace). The cargoes of both vessels consisted of three hundred barrels of flour for the use of the American army. John Brown, owner of the vessels, merchant of Providence, Rhode Island, and a factor in purchasing the flour, was aboard one of the sloops. The cargo of both vessels were put into the Abigail and she was sent round to Boston with owner John Brown aboard on the afternoon of 27 April. The crew was released at the time of Abigail's capture, but Brown was detained until 2 May 1775, when the sloop was released (see Diana.)
