Comments: The 100-ton brig John (William Tazard) was captured by Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Amsterdam (Commander James Magee) about October 1780. Magee was en route to Boston, Massachusetts from Göteborg, Sweden. John was bound to Newfoundland with a cargo of provisions and dry goods and was said to be a valuable prize. She was sent into Boston and had arrived before 21 November 1780. John was libeled in the Massachusetts Maritime Court of the Middle District on 7 December 1780, with her trial set for 2 January 1781
