Comments: Brigantine Three Friends (Thomas Russell), 140 tons, was en route from St. Eustatia to Ireland with a cargo of sugar and coffee. Near the Newfoundland Banks, Three Friends fell in with the New Hampshire Privateer Schooner McClary (Commander Robert Parker) and was captured. The prize was ordered into Portsmouth, New Hampshire, arriving on 1 November 1776.  Three Friends was libeled on 5 November 1776 and tried on 27 November. She was sold on 12 December 1776, being described as “well found,” and the proceeds were £5870.8.3.
