Comments: The British Transport Brig Renfrew (James Somerville) was owned in Greenock, Scotland by Joshua Tucker. The 216 ton brig was taken up by the British for use as a transport, was armed with eight swivel guns and had a crew of fourteen men. She sailed from London, England bound for New York, New York with a cargo of oats for the army forces there. Stress of weather forced her to bear away for the West Indies and put into Antigua, British West Indies. After refitting, she sailed from there on 20 September 1776. At 31°05'N, 60°00'W Renfrew was captured by the Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Langdon (Commander Jacob Allen). The British reported she was armed with six guns and had a crew of twenty-five men.
