Comments: Brig Hope was captured on 30 October 1776 by Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Hawke (Commander John Lee). She was ordered into a northern port, but was sighted by HM Frigate Lizard (Captain Thomas Mackenzie) in the morning of 11 December 1776, some thirty miles southwest of Cape Negro, Nova Scotia, and recaptured. Lizard put an acting Lieutenant and six men aboard. She was eventually sent into Halifax, Nova Scotia.
