Comments: Pennsylvania Privateer Brigantine Ariel (Commander Matthew Lawler) sailed in November 1780. She captured a sloop, the 50-ton Polly (John Campbell), with a cargo of salt, bound from New York, New York to Charleston. Polly was sent into Philadelphia, where she arrived about 1 December 1780. Polly was libeled on 5 December 1780, with her trial set for 6 December. She had been condemned and sold by 16 January 1781.
