Comments: Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Sturdy Beggar (Commander Edward Rolland) was at 43°44'N, 13°30'W on 14 November 1776, where she encountered part of a convoy of fishing vessels from Newfoundland. The Triton (Hookey), Lion (Hervey), Flora (Whitburn), Betty , and the Penguin (Bussell) were all captured. The first three were owned in Dartmouth, England, and the last in Tinmouth. They had sailed from Newfoundland bound for Spain with cargoes of fish on 26 October 1776, escorted by HM Frigate Fox. After parting from the Fox the vessels encountered the Sturdy Beggar. The captives were all placed on the Betty, which was released. Betty arrived in Dartmouth about 22 November.1
