Comments: Connecticut Privateer Sloop Washington (Commander Joseph Jauncey) was at sea in the fall of 1776. She captured the 70-ton schooner Halifax Packet (Eliphalet Smith), bound from Halifax, Nova Scotia to New York, New York with a cargo of fish and staves. Halifax Packet was libeled on 26 December 1776, in the Massachusetts Maritime Court for the Southern District, with trial set for 14 January 1777.
