Comments: Massachusetts Privateer Brigantine Washington (Commander Elias Smith) captured the snow Friendship (Shotten), on 6 November 1776, at 42°22'N, 27°03'W, on the Newfoundland Banks. She was from Quebec, Quebec, bound to Barcelona, Spain. The master and four men were removed and a prize crew of seven men went aboard. She was ordered into Cape Ann, Massachusetts. On 26 November Friendship was re-captured by the Nova Scotia Provincial Marine Schooner Loyal Nova-Scotian (Captain John Alexander) and taken into Halifax, Nova Scotia. There she was tried and condemned on 14 December.
