Comments: Sloop Drummond was captured by HM Frigate Rose on 14 June 1775, and was one of several vessels with provisions that the townspeople of Newport “recaptured” from the British. After the two British vessels sailed on the morning of 17 June (withdrawing their prize crews) the townspeople boarded the vessels and brought them to the wharves, where they were unloaded and “dismantled.” Captain Wallace of the Rose claimed the owners had agreed to ship provisions to the British.
