Comments: Connecticut Privateer Schooner Young Cromwell (Commander William Reed) returned from a short cruise on 31 July 1781, bringing in the British Privateer Schooner Surprise (David Ross). Surprise was armed with eight guns and had a crew of forty-five men and was captured two days after sailing from Sandy Hook.
