Comments: Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Active (Commander Andrew Gardner) and Massachusetts Privateer Schooner Speedwell (Commander Jonathan Greely) sailed with Captain John Manley’s squadron, but soon parted company. On 25 July the two schooners fell in with and captured the brig Three Brothers [Two Brothers], out of Newfoundland bound to Barbados, British West Indies with a cargo of fish. Three Brothers was dispatched to America, but was sighted some nine miles northwest of Mt. Desert Island, chased, and captured by HM Frigate Rainbow (Captain Sir George Collier) on 20 August 1777. She was sent to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was tried and condemned on 17 September 1777.
