Comments: Massachusetts Privateer Ship American Tartar (Commander John Grimes) was off the Shetland Islands about 13 July 1777. Here she captured a brig with a cargo that included tar. Thirty barrels of the tar were removed. The brig was given up to the master, presumably with the prisoners from other prizes aboard.
