Comments: [British Transport] Brigantine Nelly (John Robinson or Robertson), 180 or 200 tons, was captured by Massachusetts Privateer Brig Yankee Hero (Commander Thomas Thomas) while en route to Boston with a cargo of coal, cheese and provisions, from Whitehaven. Nelly had had a short passage f rom England. She was sent into Newburyport, where she was libeled on 11 March 1776 and tried on 28 March 1776. The master was paroled to return to England soon after. He returned home in a small schooner with other paroled captains, departing Squam on 14 May 1776 and arriving at Whitehaven on 10 June.
