Comments: Sloop Kingfisher [King Fisher] (Lot Strange) entered the port of Roanoke on 6 February 1776 from St. Christophers, with a cargo of rum. Since this importation was a violation of the Continental Association, the vessel and cargo was detained by the local committee of safety and the North Carolina Provincial Council was contacted for further instructions. On 5 March 1776 the Council ordered the vessel released to the Stranges, provided they made bond for £500 that no further such importations would be made, and that the vessel sail, in ballast, within thirty days.
